This class is designed for those who want to learn how to shoot and gain a solid understanding of firearm safety. Students will not only be taught how to shoot but will also learn essential safety practices. If you’ve been considering learning to shoot, this is the class for you!

NRA First Steps Program

Description

This class covers the fundamental handling and safety rules needed to obtain a certificate of completion, which can be used to apply for a concealed weapons permit.

Topics Covered:

  • Pistol Safety, Parts, and Operation – Learn about the basic components and how they function.
  • Ammunition & Fundamentals of Shooting – Understand ammunition types and the key principles of shooting.
  • Pistol Cleaning, Storage, & Training – Learn how to properly maintain, store, and continue training with your firearm.

This course goes beyond certification requirements—it provides a strong foundation in firearm education and responsible handgun use.

Prerequisites

  • No prior experience is required. This class is open to all skill levels.

Course Completion

  • Students will receive feedback on their live-fire exercise.
  • A course certificate will be awarded upon successful completion.
  • Those who qualify will also receive a “Basic Practical” rocker upon meeting the required shooting standards.

Live-Fire Exercise:

  • Shooting takes place at 15 feet from the target.
  • Ammunition provided for 9mm and .22 calibers.
  • Passing is required to receive a certificate. If a student does not pass, they will receive credit to retake the class (no refunds).

Class Size: Maximum 15 students per session. Sign up early!

  • One-on-one training is available upon request for those who prefer personalized instruction.
